Recycled Racehorses is a thoroughbred placement program out of Ivy Hill Farm LLC in Sewell, New Jersey. Our program transitions premier horses coming off the track into the higher levels of all types of competition and showing nationwide. Our program offers all of the perks of the adoption programs except buyers are more than welcome to sell any horse that comes thru our program, as long as we know the horse is going to an approved home with a signed no auction contract/no race again contract. Our mission is to rehome retired racehorses and give them the opportunity for a new career no matter what discipline! We strive to help raise awareness on this wonderful breed. Please contact us if your in the market for your new equine partner, or have a thoroughbred you would consider making a Recycled Racehorse.
How are we different?
For the Buyers: It's an open book with the horses in our program, everything we know, you will know. Any vet records can be transferred to your vet to be discussed with you. This gives the horse the best possible chance on its next career, in our opinion. Also most of our horses are paid to be with us and also in training, therefor we are not being pressured to sell them to the next person that walks into our barn, (it's such a nice feeling!) We truly want to make sure its the right fit for you and for our horses! Our program has absorbed all of the positives of "adoption", such as if you are ever unable to keep your horse it will always be welcomed back to our barn. We have also given you the ability to sell the horse for a profit, we call it a "placement". As long as we know where the horse is and the details of the transfer of ownership, we are happy!
You can view our Placement application below left.
For the Owners/Breeders/Trainers/Sellers: Again its an open book here, we want everyone to understand what our role is! We are looking for the top end of the thoroughbreds coming off of the tracks and transitioning to new careers. Of course we always have a handful of horses that may come in and just are not capable of moving up to the higher levels and we are happy to place them in qualifying "pleasure" homes. We have a huge network of people shopping for various different situations and work extremely hard to have a great reputation!

Meet The Team
Amanda McCleery, the program director, has been showing for over to 20 years on the USEF hunter/jumper circuits, also dabbling in the AQHA circuits, and involved in the local show circuits and doing some judging at the 4-H and local levels. Amanda has always had a retired thoroughbred in the barn to retrain and sell in order to fund her showing, this has led her to create and mold the new Recycled Racehorse program. For the last two years she has been working with Turning for Home at PARX race track. Now she is branching out to work with more breeders, owners, and trainers in order to find the premier thoroughbreds able to move up the levels in any discipline they choose. Her niche and passion is starting the young ones off on the right track creating confidence from the start! Starting these amazing horses slowly and correctly, and finding them their perfect match is the most important aspects when a horse leaves the program.
Chelsey Hogan is the marketing director and runs the Recycled Racehorse Program with Amanda & Maureen. Chelsey’s passion for horses began at the early age of 5. Never owning her own horse she was able to ride various horses of all breeds, backgrounds, training and styles. This has led her to enjoy bringing along young green horses, Recycled Racehorse's being her favorite!
Alexa MaCartney- is our favorite resident "pony wrangler", Alexa not only keeps our ponies in line here, but helps with the riding and training load of all the thoroughbreds in our Recycled Racehorse Program.
Maureen McDermott- The BEST barn manager there is! Maureen is truly glue that holds Recycled Racehorses together!
